Heat 1 - Wednesday 23rd April 2008

WOW ! What an opening night ! Rosie 'O' Grady's was full to overflowing with people who were all the good spirits and mainly all good voice.
It started off with a bit of open karaoke to enable people to get their voices warmed up and starting to get the crowd warmed up for the main event.
Only seven people decided to enter heat 1 which was made up of 6 men and only 1 woman.

First up was Michael who sang Suspicious Minds from Elvis. Michael came in runner up at the end.
Next to sing was Karaoke Kris who sang Paper Lace's - Don't Be A Hero. The crowd was amazed by Kris's unique vocal talent!
Next was Jason who sang the nice ballad by The Police - Every Breath You Take.
Toni, the only female entry, was the next singer up who sang a good version of Chris Issac's Wicked Game. Toni came in third place on the night.
Craig was the next singer who also sang the cover from Elvis, Suspicious Minds.
Next to sing was Alan who sang a popular choice with the crowd which was Sit Down by James.
And finally Phil put in an energetic performance of the Andy Williams song Can't Take My Eyes Of You. With Phil putting so much into his performance he had the crowd whipped up in a frenzy and he ended up deservingly winning Heat 1 of Karaoke Fever !

I apologise for the poor quality of the photos. My camera's battery decided to die just before i took the first picture so i ended up taking all the photos on my mobile!
Hope to see more of you there again next week.

Heat 2 - Wednesday 30th April 2008

Well , heat 2 went well with a smaller and a little less enthusiastic crowd than heat 1 but nevertheless was still well attended and with some interesting singers.

Singing 1st on the night was Eric who sang the popular song from The Proclaimers, 500 Miles.

Next up was Toni, the only female entry again, who sang a very nice version of The Fugees no.1 hit, Killing Me Softly.

The 3rd singer on the night was Michael who tried his luck again with the Van Morrison song Brown Eyed Girl. Michael finished the night yet again in 2nd place.

Next to sing was in the infamous Karaoke Kris who tried again this week with Belfast Child by Simple Minds.

Last to sing in Heat 2 was Joe from Derby was sang the rock song from AC/DC Whole Lotta Rosie. Joe finished in third place on the night.

After everyone had sung it was yet again up to the audience in Rosie 'O' Grady's to vote for their favourite singer.

After all the votes were counted it was revealed by the karaoke host, Keith, that Toni was the Heat 2 winner who walked off with a case of 24 Carlsberg Export and a place in the Grand Final.

Overall, the night was a lot quieter than Heat 1 but with still some quality singers.

Hope to see you all again next week for some more Karaoke Fever !

Keith

And finally Toni, the Heat 2 winner, who sang as always with her drink in her hand !

Heat 3 - Wednesday 7th May 2008

Heat 3 turned out to yet another good night in Rosie 'O' Grady's with a good audience but not so many entrants again. For the first time though we had an even split of male and female entries with three from each.

Singing first on the night was Karaoke Kris who tried his luck for the third time singing Enrique's Hero but to no avail !

The next singer was Layla who tried her luck with last weeks winning song, The Fugees & Killing Me Softly. She gave a good performance but unfortunately was pipped at the post into the runner up spot.

Alan was the next singer up who gave a good version of the original song from The Zutons, the now classic Valerie.

Singing fourth was Micci who sang the popular song from Nancy Sinatra, These Boots Were Made For Walking. She put in a good and energetic performance but was only good enough to be placed 3rd.

The fifth singer was Eric who was back again trying a song from Juice Newton. Queen Of Hearts went down very well with the audience but unfortunately not got enough for a placing.

The last singer on the night was Emma who chose the Shania Twain number Love Gets Me Everytime. Certainly dressed for the part she sang a good version of the song and was popular enough for the audience to vote her into 1st place. Emma will join the other heat winners for the grand final on the 3rd July.

Heat 4 - Wednesday 14th May 2008

A good turn out for heat 4 made for a very entertaining evening with a total of 7 singers and an enthusiastic audience.

Singing first on the night was Crystal who certainly looked the part for the song she sung. Dressed in full goth regailier she sang a very good version of Evanesence's song My Immortal. Crystal came in 3rd place.

Up next was the infamous Karaoke Kris who tried for the fourth time with a song from Ray Parker Jnr, the classic Ghostbusters. It went down well with the crowd but unfortunately he wasn't placed, again!

Singing third was Alan who put in a good performance of Prince's classic number, Kiss.

Micci sang next with another classic song, this one from Stealers Wheel and the ever popular Stuck In The Middle. Micci certainly had a good dance about on the stage and enjoyed herself but unfortunately didn't get placed this week.

Singing fifth was Steve who sang an interesting version of the Tenacious D song Tribute.

Vinzcente came up next to sing the Irene Cara song Flashdance. This was very well delivered and went down well with the crowd. Vinzcente (or Vinnie for short) was the audiences winner for Heat 4 and will take her place in the Grand Final on July 2nd.

Chris was the final singer taking part and sang a wonderful rendition of the Simon & Garfunkel hit song Bridge Over Troubled Water. This went down well with the audience who eventually placed Chris runner-up.

So yet again, and for the 3rd week running, it was a female entrant winning Karaoke Fever. Hopefully next week we might see the return of a male winner. We'll see ! See you then.

Heat 5 - Wednesday 21st May 2008

Heat 5 proved to be another entertaining night with a surprising result. Starting later than normal because of the European Cup Final and a few mad, quite drunk Man Utd. fans, we eventually had six entrants which was made up from 3 female & 3 male entries.

It was Micci who got us underway with a big song from Cher - If I Could Turn Back Time. She sang it well but didn't draw enough votes to get placed on this occasion.

Karaoke Kris was next who sang a surprising choice of song from Whitney Houston. I Wanna Dance With Somebody was delivered in a way that only Karaoke Kris can do. He got a rapturous round of applause as he finished!

Singing third was Crystal who was dressed up again for the occasion and to suit the song she sang. It was another song from Evanesence but this time the choice was Lithium. It was sang very well again but was unlucky not to get placed this week.

Our fourth singer on the evening was Alan who took us all back to the 60's with The Kinks song, Dedicated Follower Of Fashion. This went down well with the audience who were replying with the line from the chorus "Oh Yes he is!"

Singing next was Christine who sang Black Velvet from Allanah Miles. She sang a very good version of the hit song and was good enough on the night to be placed in 3rd with the audience.

And finally for Heat 5 we had Eric who sang the classic tune from The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). A fantastic song to end the show with and by now the crowd was well warmed up and sang along with the "Da Da Da Da's" in the chorus. The audience finally voted Eric into a well deserved 2nd place.

But it the legend himself, Karaoke Kris who stole the night with his unique voice and was voted by the audience the Heat 5 winner! I think Kris must have brought his fan club in with him because quite a few people were left puzzled and stunned by this result. Kris won the 24 bottles of Carlsberg Export (even though he doesn't drink lager!) and a place in the Grand Final on the 2nd July.

So it was a return of the men to the winning ways! Hope to see you all again next week!

Heat 6 - Wednesday 28th May 2008

Well if you were there for Heat 6 you probably realised that it wasn't me who was presenting on the night. My wife, Jenni, gave birth to our baby daughter, Beth, in the early hours of Wednesday so it was left to Jeff to fill in for me. Jeff will also be doing Heat 7 for me too.

So i'm just relying on information relayed to me via Jeff for the update for Heat 6. So here goes!

Apparently, Rosie 'O' Grady's was heaving with people but only drew 5 entrants to make up Heat 6.

Singing first on the night was Eve who sang a decent version of Abba's Gimme Gimme Gimme. Eve was voted by the audience on the night the runner up.

Ed followed on with a great rendition of the Spandau Ballet classic, Gold. This was well received by the audience.

Singing next was Vasco who performed a version of Crazy by Patsy Cline.

Micci sang fourth trying again with the now lengendry version of Valerie by Mark Ronson featuring Amy Winehouse.

And the final singer for Heat 6 was Michaela who sang the No.1 song from Fairground Attraction, Perfect. It was a good finish to the night and earned Michaela 3rd place.

But it was Ed who stole the night by gaining the most amount of votes and walked away with his case of Carlsberg Export and a place in the grand final of Karaoke Fever.

Jeff will be in charge again next week and i'll be back for Heat 8 on the 11th June.

Heat 7 - Wednesday 4th June 2008

If you were there on Wednesday, you probably realised that it was Jeff again who looked after proceedings for me while i'm still on paternity leave. So yet again i'm just relying on information provided by Jeff for this update.
There was a good crowd again with plenty of karaoke singers but the competition only received five entrants again.
Singing first on the night was Richard was sang a very good and respectful version of John Denver's Annie's Song. It was good enough to earn Richard 3rd place, voted by the audience.
Trying for the second week was Eve who choose The Coors track, Breathless. Sadly it didn't earn her a placing this week.
Singing third was Crystal who tried her luck this time with the powerful song from The Phantom Of The Opera - Music Of The Night. Crystal was so unlucky again to be pipped into 2nd place by the narrowest of margains.
Up next was Layla who was certainly dressed to wow the crowd and singing the song Family Portrait by Pink she certainly wowed the crowd with her voice too.
And finally, the last singer was Casper who performed the classic number from Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around.
But it was Layla who won Heat 7 and deservedly booked her place in the Grand Final on the 2nd July.
I'll be back again for Heat 8 so hopefully will see all there on wednesday for some more Karaoke Fever !

Heat 8 - Wednesday 11th June 2008

Well i was back to work this week for Heat 8 which turned out to be a good night although a disappointing number of entrants again.

All the 5 singers were given good rounds of applause by the enthusiastic audience.

Singing first on the night was Eve who performed a very respectable version of The Coors song Breathless but sadly not gaining her a placing.

Julie from Manchester was our next singer who sang an excellent version of the Whitney Houston classic I Will Always Love You. Her performance was voted by the audience into 2nd place.

Singing third was our only male entrant Jeff. It's the first time in the competition that only one man has entered into one of the heats. Jeff sang the little medley from Elvis Presley - Blueberry Hill/I Can't Stop Loving You and performed it very well but unfortunately didn't earn enough votes for a placing.

The fourth singer was Eva from Hungary who sang Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On. She gained the respect of the audience as she only spoke limited English but sang the song almost word perfect. This gained her 3rd place.

And the final singer for Heat 8 was Crystal who this week tried the song from Kate Winslet - What If. She sang it very well and confidently and was good enough for her to win Heat 8 in style with double the amount of votes than the runner up.

Crystal will join the 7 other singers already through in the Grand Final on the 2nd July.

Eva who gained 3rd place.

Julie singing her way to the runner up spot.

Heat 8 winner Crystal, at last !!

Heat 9 - Wednesday 18th June 2008

The penultimate heat has been and gone and what a great night it was. Rosie 'O' Grady's was full to overflowing with a good entusiastic audience to help the seven entries through with their performances.

Singing first on the night was 'Boro lad Alan who got the crowd singing straight away with the classic from The Monkees - Daydream Believer.

The second singer was Big Dave who certainly was very tall ! He sang a very good version of The Drugs Don't Work by The Verve. It was good enough to earn him joint 2nd place.

Trying her luck again next was Micci who performed What If by Kate Winslet. Although sang very well it was only good enough for joint 3rd place on the night.

Our fourth singer was Rosie's barman Joe who sang for the 1st time on my karaoke with a popular song from Johnny Cash. Folsom Prison Blues was delivered pretty good considering but unfortunately not good enough for a placing.

Next up was Rosemary who sang the Guns & Roses classic tune Sweet Child O' Mine. A good performance was rewarded by gaining joint 3rd place overall.

Singing for the 1st time in the competition next was Henry who stuck with his old crooner numbers this one being from Matt Monroe and Portrait Of My Love. A very good performance earned the pensioner joint 2nd place.

But it was Jeff, singing last, who provided that little bit extra in his performance which earned him 1st place by singing The Commitments track Try A Little Tenderness. Jeff gladly received his case of Carsberg lager and a place in the Grand Final on 2nd July.

Well another good night and now with just one heat left we have 5 woman & 4 men into the final. Hope to see you all again next week for the final heat of Karaoke Fever.

Heat 10-Wednesday 25th June 2008

Well the final heat is over and we now have our 10 finalists. Heat 10 was well attended but only drew six entrants in total. It was brought to everyones attention though that the Heat 1 winner, Phil, is unable to attend next weeks final which meant that two people had to go through in this heat, the runner-up and winner.

The night was made up from three each of men and women but it was to be the mens night.

Singing first, and first time in the competition, was Helen. The pensioner performed a very respectable version of Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler.

Next, and trying her best for the last time, was Micci who this week sang the Dido hit Life For Rent. Although sang very confidently, it didn't draw enough votes for a place.

The third singer, and his first time in the competition, was Troy. He belted out the Meatloaf classic Bat Out Of Hell and was met with rapturous applause at the end of his performance. It was good enough to earn Troy the runner-up spot AND a place in the Grand Final next week.

The next singer was Henry who this week tried his luck with another Crooner number, this one from Frank Sinatra. He sang That's Life very enigmatically and was good enough for Henry to earn himself third place.

Singing fifth was Christine who this week performed Beautiful Stranger from Madonna. A decent attempt but unfortunately not good enough for a placing on the night.

And finally we had Chris who performed again the classic track Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel. A very smooth and confident performance was met with great applause at the end and most importantly enough votes for Chris to win Heat 10. Chris accepted his prize of the case of Carlsberg lager but quickly did a swap for a case of J2O's instead seeing as he is T total !

So there we have it ! We'll see Chris in the final next week together with four other men and five women.

Hope to see you all there on Wed. 2nd July for the Grand Final of Karaoke Fever !
