Karaoke Fever 2009

Heat 1 - Wednesday 22nd April 2009

Well Karaoke Fever 2009 kicked off at The George Hotel, Whitby in good style with a packed audience

who were very vocal and enthusiastic!

We had seven singers entering the 1st heat

consisting of 5 females and just the two men.

Singing first was pensioner Helen who got us underway with a very respectable version of Dido's White Flag.

Up next was Whitby's own karaoke legend, Karaoke Kris who chose to sing I Drove All Night by Roy Orbison. Kris, as always, was given a rousing round of applause for his performance although he didn't draw any votes!

Our 3rd singer was Emma C. who sang a very good version of Hero by Mariah Carey. She received a very nice round of applause and drew enough votes to see her into 3rd place.

Our next entrant was Emma F. who belted out Alanis Morrisette's Ironic and was cheered along by a lot of friends in the pub who i'm sure all voted for her too.

Singing 5th was Claire who performed a great version and the Heart classic All I Wanna Do. Claire also received a good round of applause and did well enough to gain her joint 2nd place.

Chris was out next singer who i feel felt a little bit out of his depth when he attempted the song from the New Radicals, You Get What You Give.

And finally we had Christine who sang the very nice song from Whitney Houston, I Have Nothing. It was very well sung and was good enough to gain Christine joint 2nd place.

But it was to be our 4th singer, Emma F. who was the person who received the most votes on the night from the public that won Heat 1 and received a case of Carlsberg lager and a place in the Grand Final on Wednesday 1st July !

Emma C. gaining 3rd place.

Claire singing her way to joint 2nd place.

Christine also singing her way to joint 2nd place.

Heat 1 winner Emma F. singing Ironic.

Heat 2 - Wednesday 29th April 2009

Heat 2 of Karaoke Fever got underway with seven entrants again hoping to make it into the Grand Final.

Singing 1st was Karaoke Kris who this week tried his luck with The Righteous Brothers classic, Unchained Melody. He managed to get more votes than last week (which wasn't hard) but unfortunately didn't have enough to gain a place.

Casper was the next singer who chose to sing the classic number from Boyzone, Words. He received a generous round of applause for his effort.

The 3rd singer should have been Liam Dudman but unknown to me and the majority of the audience, Liam decided to leave before his turn came up! Thanks Liam!

So moving on quickly to our next singer, it was Kelly who sang Foundations from Kate Nash and did a really got job, not only from her performance but her connection with the enthusiastic audience who showed their appreciation at the end of the song.

The 5th singer was Michael who as always sang one of his favourite Irish numbers, The Wild Rover. Although the audience joined in with the chorus it wasn't good enough to give Michael a placing.

Singing next was Emma C. who this week tried her luck with the now legendery song My Heart Will Go On from Celine Dion. Her performance was good enough to place Emma into 2nd place.

And finally we had Gura who sang the popular love song Hero from Enrique Iglesias. He sang the song well enough to gain him 3rd place.

But it was Kelly who was easily tonights winner with a massive public vote (mainly from the men) who won Heat 2 and will join Emma F. in the grand final on 1st July.

Gura singing his way to 3rd place.

Emma singing My Heart Will Go On and gaining 2nd place.

The Heat 2 winner Kelly with her performance of Foundations.

Heat 3 - Wednesday 6th May 2009

Another full house for Heat 3 for the six entrants which was made up of three of each, male & female.

The first singer was the infamous Karaoke Kris who this week tried his luck with Fields of Gold by Sting. Kris, as always, belted it out in his own unique style and it was quite a shock, not only for but for the rest of the pub, that Kris managed to gain 3rd place on the night for his efforts.

Our second singer was barmaid, Louise who sang a very good version of Blondie's One Way Or Another. The crowd sang along with the entire song but unfortunately didn't vote for her in the same numbers.

Next up was George Hotel staff member Mark who sang Hit The Road Jack by Ray Charles. Mark gave this song a good go but i think a lack of knowledge of the song let him down on the night.

The 4th singer was holidaymaker Sandra who chose to sing My Aphrodisiac Is You by Katie Melua. A respectful version of the song but not good enough for a placing unfortunately.

The next singer was local karaoke host Jeff who sang his version of You Do Something To Me by Paul Weller. He certainly did the song justice and i'm sure Mr Weller himself would have given Jeff a round of applause, if he was there! It was good enough to earn Jeff 2nd place on the night.

And finally we had local lass Emma, who this week tried her luck again with Mariah Carey's Hero. It was beautifully sang and drew a very good and worthy round of applause. It was good enough that the public gave Emma the most votes on the night and of course gave her the win she'd been after for the previous two weeks. Emma will join the others for the grand final on Wednesday 1st July.

Karaoke Kris somehow managing 3rd place!

Jeff singing Paul Weller and gaining 2nd place.

Emma C. finally winning with Hero by Mariah Carey.

Heat 4 - Wednesday 13th May 2009

Well Heat 4 got underway with another good crowd but only drawing five entrants this week with only 1 female in a male dominated night.

The first singer again was Karaoke Kris who keeps trying his best and this week tried his luck at The Living Years by Mike & The Mechanics. Although Kris gained more votes than he had done in previous weeks, it wasn't good enough for a placing this time.

Singing 2nd was Backy who belted out the popular Oasis song Little By Little. It was quite obvious that Backy had quite a few mates in the pub who were all jeering at him and encouraging him to do well. It was well enough to gain him 3rd place on the night.

Christine was our next singer who again tried her luck with the nice song from Whitney Houston, I Have Nothing. It was performed very well again but unfortunately only drew enough votes for 2nd place.

Singing 4th on the night was Stewart who sang a very respectable version of Suspicious Minds by Elvis Presley. Not good enough though for a placing.

And finally we had Whitby pensioner Henry. Henry, as always sang one of his crooner numbers which he has made him become well known around town. He chose to sing Let Me Try Again by Frank Sinatra. He sang it very confidently and drew rapturous rounds of applause at the end of his performance. It was enough for Henry to gain 1st place and not only a case of Carlsberg lager but a place in the Grand Final on Wednesday 1st July.

Christine gaining 2nd place, again!

Heat 5 - Wednesday 20th May 2009

Well Heat 5 got underway with a good audience yet again and attracting 6 entrants which included a 50/50 split of male & females.
Singing 1st on the night was Andy who belted out the Neil Diamond classic Sweet Caroline to a good reaction from the audience who all sang along with him in the chorus. His performance was good enough to gain him 2nd place!
Up next was Eliza who showed she had good vocal quality as she performed Good Luck from Basement Jaxx. It gave her a good round of applause at the end and also a third place in the nights result.
Our 3rd singer was the infamous Karaoke Kris who this week tried his luck with Together In Electric Dreams by Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder. It was well received as always but unfortunately not good enough tonight for a place.
The next singer up was Helen who sang the love song from Enrique Iglasias, Hero. It was sung very clearly and well but wasn't good enough for a place.
The 5th singer was Sean who chose to sing the Robbie Williams swing song Ain't That A Kick In The Head. It was well performed but didn't do well enough to gain enough votes on the night for a place.
Finally we had Angela who sang Top Of The World by The Carpenters. Angela certainly had lots of support who were whooping and cheering her along. And it was her vast support on the night that saw her win Heat 5, a case of Carlsberg lager and a place in the Grand Final on the 1st July !

Eliza singing Good Luck who came in 3rd place.

Andy singing Sweet Caroline gaining 2nd place.

Heat 5 winner Angela singing Top Of The World.

Heat 6 - Wednesday 27th May 2009

Heat 6 got underway with a big crowd to begin with as the Champions League Final just finished and a lot of glum looking Man United fans around.
It was hard work for me to drum up support for the nights contest but i eventually managed to get 5 entrants.
So singing first, again, was Karaoke Kris who tried singing the song which earned him a place in the final last year. It was I Wanna Dance With Somebody from Whitney Houston. An interesting choice of song but it was good enough to earn Kris 3rd place on the night, which surprised quite a few people!
Next up was pensioner Michael who sang Patricia The Stripper by Chris De Burg. Quite an unusual song but Michael sang it quite well and was appreciated by the audience but it wasn't enough for him to get placed.
Singing 3rd was Alan who chose to sing Inside by Stiltskin. Although i was sung well, i think quite a few people hadn't heard of the song which reflected in the voting as it didn't earn enough for Alan to be placed.
The next entrant was Vik who sang See You Again by Miley Cyrus. See was encouraged by lots of her friends who were in supporting her. It was good enough for her to earn enough votes for 2nd place on the night.
And finally we had Jeff who chose to sing the song that earned him a place in the grand final last year, Try A Little Tenderness from The Commitments. It was sung impecably as ever and drew a great round of applause at the end of his performance. And it was Jeff who earned enough votes on the night to give him 1st place and yet again, a place in the grand final on the 1st July !

3rd place tonight went top Karaoke Kris !

Vik singing See You Again who gained 2nd place.

Heat 6 winner Jeff during his performance of Try A Little Tenderness.

Heat 7 - Wednesday 3rd June 2009

Heat 7 got underway with a reasonable crowd in and what turned out to be a male dominated night making up all the five entrants.

Singing first, yet again, was Karaoke Kris who tried out a song that he'd already sung in a previous heat, The Living Years by Mike & The Mechanics. There was lots of encouragment for Kris as always during and after his performance which ended in a deafening roar from a rather excited audience!

Singing next was local man Alan who this week chose to sing the James classic song, Sit Down. His strong performance had the crowd all singing along, especially in the chorus and it was good enough to earn Alan 2nd place!

Stewart was our next singer who sang the Meatloaf ballad Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad. This was sung very well too and this also had the crowd singing along with enthusiasm but unfortunately didn't earn enough votes from a placing.

Singing 4th was Steve who sang the now legendry song from Take That, Shine. Yet another strong performance and a good one to sing along with but unfortunately didn't earn him enough votes from a place on the night.

And finally we had Lincoln lad Andy who sang Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. There was lots of encouragment for Andy with a lot of his mates in supporting him. It was another good song and it was performed reasonably well which earned Andy 3rd place in the night contest.

But it was the phenomenal support for Karaoke Kris which saw Kris win Heat 7, but by only one vote, and earned him a case of Carlsberg Lager and a place in the grand final of Karaoke Fever on Wednesday 1st July !

Andy singing Rick Astley and gaining 3rd place.

Alan who was just pipped into 2nd place.

Heat 7 winner Karaoke Kris belting out The Living Years.

Heat 8 - Wednesday 10th June 2009

Another good crowd was in The George Hotel for heat 8 of Karaoke Fever and it was to be another male dominated night making up all the six contestants.

Singing 1st was Boro lad Romeo who sang a very respectable version of Bed Of Roses by Bon Jovi. It wasn't enough though for him to gain a place.

Ginge was our next singer who chose the Oasis anthem Wonderwall to perform. Even though it went down well with the audience he didn't get placed.

Singing 3rd was Stuart who performed Dance The Night Away by The Mavericks. It was his strong voice that gave him enough votes for 3rd place on the night.

The next singer was Tony who sang The Commodores love song 3 Times A Lady. Unfortunately it wasn't good enough for him to earn enough votes foe a placing.

Singing 5th was local lad Newt who chose to sing the Chesney Hawkes anthem The One And Only. It was a crowd favourite who all sang along with him and cheered on by him friends he managed enough votes to gain 2nd place.

And finally we had Alan who this week sang Paint It Black from The Rolling Stones. One of Alan favourite songs, he sang it with confidence and it was indeed Alan who gained enough votes to win Heat 8 along with a case of Carlsberg lager and a place in the Grand Final of Karaoke Fever on Wednesday 1st July !

Heat 9 - Wednesday 17th June 2009

Well the penultimate round of Karaoek Fever took place with an even mix of entrants making up the six contestants.

Singing first on the night was Paul who sang the rock song Monkey Wrench by the Foo Fighters. A very loud but strong performance from him was good enough to earn him enough votes to gain 2nd place on the night.

The next singer was bar staff member Charlene who decided to sing Ironic from Alanis Morrisette. It was a good solid performance from her and she was voted by the audience into 3rd place on the night.

Chris was the next singer who sang Penny Arcade by Roy Orbison. It was a good performance but didn't draw enough votes for a place.

Singing 4th was another bar staff member from The George Hotel, Kayleigh. She chose to sing the Bryan Adams classic Summer Of 69. It was very popular with the audiance and all her friends who gave her encouragement by all singing along.

Up next was Ed who entered the competition for the 1st time with Superstition by Stevie Wonder. It was a good song and was performed well but unfortunately wasn't enough for him to gain a placing on the night.

And the last singer was Becky who sang Let Me Entertain You by Robbie Williams. It was sung well but not good enough for a placing.

But it was an amazed Kayleigh who came out top in tonights contest. She couldn't quite believe that she'd won, along with a few others, but nevertheless pick up the case of Carslberg lager and a place in the Grand Final !
